Nakajima’s past would always be there, so the foundation could crumble at any moment. That’s what happens, I realized, when people destroy other people.

About This Quote

This quote is from the movie, “Nakajima’s Report” directed by Kôji Fukada. Nakajima was a Japanese pilot during WWII and he saw firsthand the devastation and deaths of WWII. He had a hard time dealing with it and became a drunk and a drug addict. After he finally got sober he worked to atone for his sins by writing an article about his experiences with people that destroyed other people. He wrote that after seeing this brutality he realized that no matter how much you try to give someone who is destroying another person an opportunity to change, they cannot change if they do not recognize their destruction or recognize they need to change.
